We often talk about the A1C test, but what does the A1C test measure?

The A1C test (or the hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c test) is a simple blood test that measures our average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months.

It’s one of the commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.

When sugar enters the bloodstream, it attaches to the hemoglobin in the red blood cells.

All of our hemoglobin is attached with sugars, but people with high blood sugar have more glucose attached to hemoglobin.

The A1C test is to measure the percentage of glycation on hemoglobin.

The higher the percentage, the higher the blood sugar levels, and is diagnosed as diabetes, also it means the higher risks to develop diabetic complications.

Percentage below 5.7% represents normal blood sugar levels, between 5.7% to 6.4% means prediabetes, and higher than 6.5% is diabetes.

You should do the A1C test in the regular body check up.
